India vs England: Hosts dominate with record-breaking 410/7 on Day 1 of Women’s Test

India vs England: Hosts dominate with record-breaking 410/7 on Day 1 of Women’s Test

In an impressive display, the Indian women's team marked their return to Test cricket by scoring a record 410 runs on the first day of their one-off Test against England - only the second instance when a team scored 400 runs in a single day of a women's Test.

After electing to bat first, India experienced early setbacks with the loss of their openers. However, the tide turned with a 115-run partnership between debutant Shubha Satheesh and Jemimah Rodrigues, setting a solid foundation for the innings.

Satheesh's impressive debut featured a 49-ball fifty, making her the 12th Indian woman to score a fifty in her maiden Test. Her swift fifty is also the fourth fastest in women’s Test history and the second fastest by an Indian player.

Following the dismissals of Satheesh and Rodrigues, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Yastika Bhatia put together another hundred-run partnership, further strengthening India's position.

Harmanpreet's innings, however, ended just shy of a half-century after she ran herself out in bizarre fashion. It was reminiscent of her disastrous dismissal against Australia in the T20 World Cup semifinal earlier this year.

Yastika Bhatia, meanwhile, contributed a valuable 66 runs. Deepti Sharma's unbeaten 60 further bolstered the team, leading India to a commanding 410/7 at the close of the day's play.

Mohammed Shami's Test series participation against South Africa in doubt, likely to be ruled out
