Marylebone Cricket Club amends law, says term 'batter' to be used instead of 'batsman'

In a bid to make cricket an inclusive game, Marylebone Cricket Club introduced new amendments to the cricket laws. The English club has announced to replace the word 'batsman' with 'batter' and 'batsmen' with 'batters' with immediate effect. Calling it MCC's global responsibility towards sports, the officials in their statement said that the club believes that the use of gender-neutral terminology helps reinforce cricket's status as an inclusive game for all.

The shift to the term batter is a natural progression, aligning with the terms of bowlers and fielders that already sit with the law, the officials added.
