As Shikhar Dhawan leads India in the 3-match ODI series against New Zealand, the left-hander received praise from former Indian player and coach Ravi Shastri.

Shastri heaped special praise on the stroke playing ability of Dhawan and said that he was vastly experienced and has played many fine innings against top teams and also has an outstanding record.

Dhawan was also praised for his wide range of shots and ability to counter top-class fast bowling. Speaking during the pre-match coverage of the first ODI between India and New Zealand, Shastri said that the 36-year-old doesn't receive the accolades he deserves.

"To be honest, most of the spotlight is on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma," he added.

Shikhar Dhawan played another fine innings of 72 runs as he stitched a 124-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill in the first ODI.
