'News incorrect': BCCI quashes reports of Byju's pending payment

The Board of Control for Cricket in India issued a clarification after reports of Team India's jersey sponsor Byju's pending payment surfaced.

As per earlier reports, Byju's owed the Indian board Rs 86.21 crores. However, the edutech company who have initiated the process of renewing its contract with BCCI earlier in April refuted the claims.

Issuing a clarification, a BCCI source told TOI that the reported pending amount of Rs 86.21 crores is for the matches that have been played after the contract expired. The source further stated that while the new contract is ready, it is yet to be signed and the remaining amount can only be cleared after the contract is signed.

Byju’s came on board as jersey sponsors in 2019, replacing OPPO. In April, the BCCI agreed on extending the partnership until the 2023 ODI World Cup at a 10% increment. While the agreement between BCCI and Byju's is ready, it has not been signed.
