'No cause for concern', Shreyas Iyer fit to play IPL: report

In the latest twist, Shreyas Iyer's fitness is no cause of concern, with Mumbai team manager clearing him to play the IPL for Kolkata.

'No cause for concern', Shreyas Iyer fit to play IPL: report

Amid contrasting accounts regarding his fitness, a Cricbuzz report has revealed that Mumbai batter Shreyas Iyer is fit to play the Indian Premier League.

In a report dated March 14, Cricbuzz has quoted Mumbai team manager Bhushan Patil as saying, 'There is no cause for concern; he is fine and will be going to Kolkata for the pre-IPL camp in two days.'

The Kolkata Knight Riders reportedly reiterated Patil's statement adding that they have not received any other report about their captain's fitness.

However, neither Shreyas nor his team have provided an official update on his fitness.

This speculation arose after the 29-year-old complained of back pain after his sensational 95 knock in the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha.

The report further states that Shreyas underwent scans, which turned out to be inconclusive adding that the final diagnosis rests with the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

This fresh development in the Ranji final sheds light on the batter's absence from the quarterfinal against Baroda in February.

Shreyas had complained of a stiff back at that time, when India were also scheduled to play the third Test against England in Rajkot.

However, with NCA refuting his claims, the batter was bashed for priortising the longer formats for the IPL.

It also resulted in Iyer being dropped from BCCI's central contract list.

Cricbuzz added in its report that the apex cricket body is considering reinstating Iyer into the central contracts list but a final decision has not been made yet.
