Pat Cummins named Australia's ODI captain following Aaron Finch's retirement

Cricket Australia on Tuesday named Pat Cummins as Australia's 27th ODI captain and lead the team at the 2023 World Cup in India after Aaron Finch retired from the 50-over format.

The fast bowler was also picked as the skipper in Tests last year after Tim Paine decided to take a break from cricket.

David Warner and Steve Smith's names were also doing the round and Cricket Australia was also considering lifting the lifetime captaincy ban from the two senior cricketers. But the leadership ban is still in place as the board mulls a change to its code of conduct.

Cummins will become the first fast bowler to captain the Australian men's team in limited-overs cricket as well as the first bowler to lead since Shane Warne, who stood in 11 ODIs in late 1990s.
