R Ashwin, second player to take 9-wicket haul in his 100th Test match

The Dharamsala Test has been nothing but milestones for India's spin maestro Ashwin.

R Ashwin, second player to take 9-wicket haul in his 100th Test match

Ravichandran Ashwin is the man, the myth and now the legend. He is part of cricket's greatest lores. And his milestones, just from the Dharamsala Test, are what dreams comprise of.

On Day 1, in England's first innings, Ashwin's supreme spin attack caused them to fall like a pack of dominoes as he grabbed four wickets, rightfully stamping his authority of greatness in his 100th Test match .

But there was more of where that came from.

Come the visitors' second innings, Ashwin removed their first three crucial batters, wobbling their plans, disrupting their balance.

And even as the English prayed for the tide to turn, Ashwin struck again.

This time, he sent skipper Ben Stokes back shortly followed by Ben Foakes.

The England keeper's wicket gave Ashwin his 36th 5-wicket haul in Tests, going past Kumble and his joint record of 35.

The veteran has now taken most 5-wicket hauls for India in the longest format.

Apart from being the highest wicket-taker of the 2024 series, Ashwin is now the mutual custodian of an astounding record.

A feat that remained untouched for eighteen whole years, was equalled on March 09, 2024 with Ashwin's five-fer, taking his tally to a whopping nine wickets in the entire match.

Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan had set the standard, way back in 2006, when he tore through the Bangladesh line-up to claim nine scalps in his 100th Test outing.

Shane Warne is second on the list, with his magnificent 8-wicket mastery against South Africa in 2002 in his 100th international red-ball game.

After Dharamsala, it might be a little less lonely at the top as the historical list of phenomenal bowlers grows, filling up pages upon pages of history.

India won the 2024 Anthony de Mello Trophy series 4-1 against England.
