Shubman Gill rises to No. 5 in ODIs, Tilak Varma makes debut on T20I charts | ICC Rankings

India's opening batter Shubman Gill has soared to a career-best fifth position in the ICC men's player rankings, showcasing his impressive form during the recently-concluded ODI series against West Indies.

Gill amassed 126 runs in three matches, including a pivotal 85 in the series decider, which elevated his rating points to 743. His ascent places him in close proximity to Imam-ul-Haq, ranked fourth with 745 points, and Fakhar Zaman in third with 755 points. Dominating the list is Pakistan's Babar Azam at the top position with a commanding 886 rating points.

Another standout in the ODI rankings is Gill's opening partner, Ishan Kishan, who impressively leaped nine places to secure the 36th spot. Kishan's consistent display, including fifties in all three matches and an accumulation of 184 runs, earned him the prestigious Player-of-the-Series accolade.

Among the bowlers, both wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav and seamer Shardul Thakur showcased remarkable performances. Kuldeep's seven-wicket haul across three matches, including an exceptional 4 for 6 in the first ODI, propelled him four places up the rankings to secure the 10th position among bowlers. Simultaneously, Thakur, leading the wicket-takers tally in the series with eight dismissals, advanced to the 30th spot on the list.

In the T20I rankings, West Indies experienced notable shifts despite their struggles in the ODIs. Batsmen Nicholas Pooran (14th) and Rovman Powell (32nd) experienced significant advancements, while fast bowler Alzarri Joseph (13th) and spinner Akeal Hosein (14th) demonstrated progress among the bowlers.

Meanwhile, India's new sensation Tilak Varma debuted at No. 46 in the batting rankings, showcasing his skills through scores of 39, 51, and an unbeaten 49 in his first three matches.
