Shubman Gill's finger injury: Indian batter confident of quick recovery after scans

Indian batter Shubman Gill downplayed concerns about his finger injury that sidelined him on the fourth day of the second Test against England. Despite playing a crucial role with a score of 104 in India's series-levelling victory on day 3, Gill did not participate in the field on Monday, with Sarfaraz Khan substituting for him.

Gill, who hurriedly left the ground on Sunday after injuring his right index finger, underwent scans to assess the severity of the injury. Providing an update after the match, Gill revealed that the scans showed no major concerns, and he expects to recover in the next few days.

"I had to go for the scans yesterday, so they rushed me off (to know) like how sore is my finger in the evening... to check that and to know how am I feeling," said Gill after India's win in Vizag, adding he'll be fine.

The Indian team management had earlier issued a statement on Monday, stating, "Shubman Gill hurt his right index finger while fielding on Day 2. He won't be taking the field today." Known for his fielding prowess, Gill had taken four catches in the slip cordon during England's first innings.

Despite his absence from the field on the fourth day, Gill's significant contribution with the bat played a crucial role in India's victory. The series is now level at 1-1, and the teams will face off in the third Test in Rajkot starting from February 15.
