T20 World Cup 2021: 'Australia deserve it', says Williamson after suffering heartbreak in finals

Australia finally won their maiden T20 World Cup in the 7th edition of the ICC tournament and skipper Aaron Finch attributed the victory to the belief of his teammates. In the run to the World T20 Cup, the Australian skipper won a total of 6 tosses out of 7 in the tour, the only time they lost the toss was against England when the team also suffered a heavy 8 wicket defeat. On being asked if winning the tosses play a part in the win, the Australian batsman admitted that it did play a big factor. Finch said, 'It did play a big part, you saw at the end there the dew factor. The slower balls weren't holding in the wicket as much. I don't know how I did it - maybe it was just fate.'

Kane Williamson whose team suffered an 8 wicket heartbreak at the World stage congratulated the Aussies. Calling it a well-deserved win, Williamson praised the Australian team's play on the final day.

Aussies were outstanding in their chase and very, very clinical and they've had a fantastic campaign, they're a brilliant side and they thoroughly deserve it, he said.

New Zealand who had a consistent World T20 barring one loss against Pakistan had to swallow the bitter pill of defeat, however, the Kiwi skipper lauded his side's efforts. He said, 'I thought the efforts that went in were outstanding. The guys worked hard to get to what we thought was a competitive total'

Unfortunately, we weren't able to create many opportunities and get those breakthroughs. And yeah, it was a little bit frustrating, he added.
