Team India's ICC silverware drought continues after WTC Final disappointment

With Team India still looking to end the 10-year ICC trophy drought, we take a look at the times when the Sub-continental giants failed to make it count in the latter stages of important tournaments

Team India's ICC silverware drought continues after WTC Final disappointment

It's been 10 years since Team India tasted success in an ICC tournament.

Despite being the favourites to win the tournament on many occasions, the sub-continental giants failed to make it count when it mattered the most.

It was under MS Dhoni's astute captaincy that India last won an ICC title, when they lifted the Champions Trophy back in 2013.

Since then it has been nothing but heartbreak for Team India, even though they often made their way into the knockout stages of the tournaments.

The 2014 T20 World Cup saw MS Dhoni's men lose in the final by 6 wickets against Sri Lanka

The defending champions of ODI World Cup then fail to defend their crown as they lost to the Aussies by 95 runs in the semi-finals of the 50-over World Cup in 2015.

The change in captaincy couldn't do the magic either as Virat Kohli's men faltered at the semi-final stage yet again, losing to West indies by 7 wickets in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

The 2017 Champions Trophy final saw India lose another chance to end the drought as Kohli & co. faced a 180-run defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan

Then came another ODI World cup, but India had a similar fate as the Men in Blue lost to New Zealand by 18 runs in the semi-finals in 2019.

Team India couldn't even get a revenge when they faced the Kiwis in the inaugural WTC Final in 2021, as they were beaten by 8 wickets.

The 2022 T20 World Cup saw Rohit Sharma's India get humiliated by Jos Buttler's England as the eventual champions beat India by 10-wickets in the semi-finals.

With Team India hoping to finally break the drought in the 2023 WTC Final, a disappointing display by Rohit's men saw Australia lift the ICC Test mace with a 209-run victory.
