The Knights' ride: from 7th in the India leg to storming into IPL 2021 final

From languishing at the 7th spot after the India leg of IPL 2021, to making it to the final, KKR has had an incredible ride but now stand at the cusp of becoming the joint 2nd-most successful team in IPL history

The Knights' ride: from 7th in the India leg to storming into IPL 2021 final

When the IPL was postponed midway due to Covid-19, KKR had lost 5 of its 7 games and were languishing in the bottom half of the table. But a different KKR turned up ever since the tournament was shifted to the UAE as their next 7 results were a mirror image of the first leg. Kolkata won 5 of the last 7 league games and on back of the best net run rate among all teams, the Knights qualified for the playoffs.
Experts still believed that it would be a tough road ahead but KKR made Sharjah a fortress and after knocking out RCB, the 2-time champions stunned the Delhi Capitals to enter their 3rd IPL final and the first since 2014.
One man who has turned the tournament on its head is Venkatesh Iyer. Ever since he was brought into the side, he replicated coach Brendon McCullum's style of play and has already smashed 320 runs in 9 innings.
Though the Knights are now just one step away from becoming the joint 2nd-most successful team in IPL history, they will have to edge out CSK who became the first team to reach the final.
Never the less, it's been a story of one team against all odds, it's been a story of a captain who was criticized for poor form and a loss in the final can never take away the fact that the Knights of Kolkata have already produced one of the most dramatic turnarounds in IPL history.
