U-19 World Cup: How two Punjabi immigrants got into Australia & England's squad against all odds

A tale of two Punjabi immigrants, one in Australia and the other in England, would inspire many who want to chase their dreams and make a career in the game of cricket.

Fateh Singh and Harkirat Bajwa were selected for England and Australia's U-19 teams respectively, for the upcoming World Cup in West Indies.

Despite battling with hair disease Alopecia, Fateh found a place in England's U-19 squad as an all-rounder.

While Harkirat, who had a difficult time adjusting in Australia seven years ago, is a mystery spinner in the Australian U-19 side.

The growth of these two teenagers has come as a surprise to their parents as they never thought their sons would get selected for their countries so soon.

While talking to the Indian Express, Fateh's father Gurj Singh Landa said that his son got a professional contract with Nottinghamshire and made three List A appearances for his club. Fateh was named Academy player of the year in 2021 after taking 32 wickets in 13 matches for the U-18s and averaging 25.89 with the bat in 2021.

Meanwhile, Harkirat made it to the top grade this season only in Australia. He took 14 wickets in six matches at an average of 13.93 and immediately caught the attention of selectors.

Both the players will be in action for their respective sides in the U-19 World Cup, starting January 14, in West Indies.
