In a moment that captured the intense pressure and high stakes of Test cricket, Indian captain Rohit Sharma's visible anger was caught on camera following a costly mistake by Ravindra Jadeja that led to Sarfaraz Khan's run-out during the closing moments of the day's play at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. The incident, which saw Sharma throwing his cap in frustration and expressing his displeasure, underscored the emotional rollercoaster of the match.

The drama unfolded when Jadeja, on the brink of a century at 99, nudged a delivery from James Anderson towards mid-on and called for what appeared to be a risky single. The decision to run was immediately regrettable as Jadeja hesitated, leaving Sarfaraz vulnerable. England's Mark Wood seized the opportunity, executing a direct hit that sent Sarfaraz back to the pavilion for 62, a promising innings cut short by miscommunication.

Sarfaraz, seizing his long-awaited chance to represent India in Test cricket, had earlier showcased his batting prowess. His aggressive approach from the outset allowed him to slam a record-equalling fastest fifty by an Indian debutant in Tests, reaching the milestone in just 48 balls, a feat previously achieved only by Hardik Pandya.

The aftermath of the run-out saw Rohit Sharma, who had been instrumental in stabilizing India's innings with a commanding 131, and forming a crucial 204-run partnership with Jadeja, deeply affected by the turn of events. Similarly, Jadeja, upon securing his fourth Test century with the very next delivery, restrained his celebration, the weight of the earlier misjudgment casting a shadow over his milestone.

India concluded day 1 of the 3rd Test against England in a commendable position at 326/5, a significant recovery from an earlier predicament at 33/3.
