WPL to adopt ‘caravan model’ for 2024 season: reports

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) may soon become a multi-city event.

Reports say BCCI plans to adopt a caravan model for the tournament, equally dividing the 22 games between two host cities.

Cricbuzz reported Delhi and Bengaluru are on BCCI’s shortlist for WPL, which is likely to start in late February. The first season of the WPL was solely hosted in Mumbai.

The first half of the tournament will reportedly be played in Bengaluru, after which it will shift to Delhi.

If the caravan model is adopted, back-to-back games will be played at both venues. The 5-team tournament includes a total of 22 games.

While neither the IPL nor the WPL have hosted consecutive matches for more than two days, this move will aid in keeping pitches fresh for the men's tournament that will commence soon after, ESPN Cricinfo reported.

The news comes weeks after BCCI chief Jay Shah had revealed that the WPL is likely to be only hosted in one state as it will be 'better logistically.'

He had said, 'As far as the venue is concerned, it will be held in one state only so that it is better logistically. Logistics are very important for us this time, next time we can figure it out.'
