WTC Final 2023 | Former Pakistan cricketer claims Australians tampered with ball, gives this explanation

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has accused the Australian team of ball tampering in the World Test Championship final against India.

Slamming the commentators, match officials and BCCI for not noticing their tactics that led to the collapse of India's batting order on Day 2, the 52-year-old gave evidence for his claims.

On his YouTube channel, Ali blamed Pat Cummins' team for altering the ball in the 15th over.

He first explained the reverse swing and then spoke specifically about the wickets of Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara.

While Kohli fell to Mitchell Starc's bouncer, Cameron Green outbowled Pujara with a straight-forward delivery.

Explaining the mechanism behind the 2 deliveries, Ali described reverse swing and said, 'Reverse swing is when the shine is on the inside and the ball comes back in'. He also pointed out that a Dukes ball will not reverse in 15-20 overs and can last till 40 overs at least.

Noting that this was not the case when Starc bowled to Kohli with the ball's shiny end pointing outside, he said 'the ball moved the other way'

He went on to question Pujara's dismissal as well and said, 'Green bowled with the shine pointing towards Pujara and the ball rocketed back in'

This is not the first time that the Australians have been accused of ball tampering, in 2018 David Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft were found guilty of tampering with the ball.

On Day 2, Australian bowlers wreaked havoc on India's top order as they had reduced them to 151/5 after posting a mammoth 469-run target in the first innings.
