A day of VAR controversies in Premier League, West Ham goal disallowed, Aston Villa draw vs Man City

It was a day of VAR controversies at the premier league as many games saw debatable decisions with managers disagreeing over the use of the video assistant referee.

Chelsea beat West Ham 2-1 on Saturday night but it may well have been a draw if Maxwel Cornet's possible equaliser in the 90th minute wasn't disallowed due to VAR. Hammers' boss David Moyes was left furious and called it a 'scandalous decision.' 'I have seen it from all angles and find it incredibly difficult to see how that is chalked off,' he added.

However Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel felt otherwise and said that it was right to rule out West Ham's equaliser.

Champions Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Aston Villa. Erling Haaland opened the scoring for the Citizens in the 50th minute before Leon Bailey equalised 24 minutes later.

Villa however though that they had scored a winner when Philippe Coutinho found the net but the assistant referee had already called it offside. Replays showed that Coutinho was actually onside bu the VAR didn't intervene.

Everton hosted Liverpool at Goodison Park in the first Merseyside derby but the game ended in a goalless draw. However, there was a talking point.

Everton manager Frank Lampard believed that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk should have been shown a red card for his challenge on Amadou Onana. 'I'm surprised VAR didn't ask the referee to look at it,' added Lampard.

Tottenham maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they beat Fulham 2-1 on Saturday night. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane scored a goal each as the Spurs have lost only once in their last 16 Premier League games.
