Champions League: Shocker for Real Madrid, Messi scores for PSG & Liverpool win big

European football nights promised plenty of action and Tuesday night in the Champions League was anything but disappointment

Champions League: Shocker for Real Madrid, Messi scores for PSG & Liverpool win big

Lionel Messi lit up European football nights once again as he scored his first goal for Paris St Germain which helped his side beat Manchester City 2-0 in Group A in the Champions League. The trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe was expected to run riot but just managed two goals including an early strike from Idrissa Gueye. This was Lionel Messi's first goal for PSG in 3 starts and 4 games after his shock transfer in the summer from Barcelona. Courtesy of the win, PSG now tops Group A with 4 points.

Real Madrid suffered a shocking home loss against a relatively unknown Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol in Group D. With an overwhelming 2700 to 1 betting odds against the Champions League debutants, Sheriff managed to score the opening goal against the run of play. Karim Benzema did manage to pull one back but the underdog story was destined to be played out at Santiago Bernabeu. A stunning 89th min winner sealed 3 points for Sheriff Tiraspol which undoubtedly is the greatest win for the club in their short history. This was also the biggest upset in Champions League football in the past 3 seasons.

Liverpool managed an easy outing in Portugal as they defeated FC Porto 5-1 on Tuesday night in Group B to make it 2 wins out of 2 games. Mohd Salah and Roberto Firmino scored a brace each for Jurgen Klopp's side as the 2019 winners took the flight back home with all 3 points. A woeful display of sorts for FC Porto who have now conceded 14 goals at home against Liverpool in their last 3 Champions League ties.
