Deadline Day: How EPL clubs fared on final day of football transfers

The summer transfer window closed as Premier League set a new spending record of £1.9 billion on Thursday. 9 of the 20 English Premier League clubs spent over £100 million as clubs broke the previous 2017 record of £1.4 billion.

Here's a brief on how the Transfer deadline day unfolded-

Injury-stricken Liverpool who desperately needed a midfielder after Jordan Henderson suffered a hamstring injury have signed Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan from Juventus.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made a return to EPL as Chelsea signed Gabon forward for £10.3 million from Barcelona on a 2-year contract. The Blues also signed Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria on loan as the club's transfer window spending went past a whopping £278.4 million.

Meanwhile, Arsenal tried hard to sign Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz but Aston Villa rejected their 3 bids with offers of £20 million, £23 million and £25 million. Apart from the Gunners, Chelsea and Liverpool were also interested in the 24-year-old.

Senegal star Bamba Dieng had an epic Deadline Day disaster as the Olympique Marseille forward had to stay at the club after failing the medical at OGC Nice. The footballer, in fact, was on his way to Leeds at first before snubbing them when Nice came along with an offer. But as fate would have it, Dieng in the end is going to stay put at Marseille after much hustle-bustle.

Manchester United completed the most expensive ever deadline day signing of Antony from Ajax for £82 million which also made him the 4th most expensive signing in EPL history. Martin Dubravka also joined The Red Devils on a season-long loan from Newcastle for almost £2 million.
