Jamaica football team scripts history at FIFA Women's World Cup, dumps Brazil out of tournament

Jamaica created history by qualifying for the knockout stages of the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time, while Brazil's journey in the competition ended on a disappointing note.

In a tense match held in Melbourne, Jamaica displayed strong defensive resilience, ensuring they have another chapter to add to their stay Down Under.

Despite Brazil's decision to include striker Marta in the starting lineup, they struggled to find the crucial goal needed for advancement and, for the first time in 28 years, failed to progress further in the competition.

Marta, the record-holder for the most goals scored in both men's and women's World Cups with 17 goals, will not feature again in the tournament. Her sixth appearance in Australia has come to an end after making three group-stage appearances.

Following the goalless draw, Jamaica's next challenge in the last 16 could be against Colombia or Germany, while France secured their spot as Group F winners after their victory over Panama in another match.
