La Liga wrap: Real Madrid dent Atletico's title defense hopes; Barcelona play out a draw

Real Madrid's Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio delivered the latest blow to Atlético Madrid's championship defence as they beat them 2-0 on Sunday. With that, Real Madrid consolidated its position on the La Liga leaderboard.

In both halves of the match, Vinicius Junior proved to be the difference for Madrid, setting up Benzema and Asensio. While Benzema gave Real the lead in the 16th minute, Asensio doubled it in the second half.

Barcelona vs Osasuna

On the other hand, Barcelona's poor run in the Spanish League continued after they let three points slip away at Osasuna on Sunday as Chimy Avila's late stunner earned the hosts a 2-2 draw.

Barca's coach Xavi Hernandez was forced to turn to youngsters after losing seven important players to injury, and 19-year-olds Nico Gonzalez and Ezzalzouli both scored as the visitors took the lead twice.

But Osasuna equalised on both occasions, first through defender David Garcia and again practically in stoppage time, when Avila's low shot from beyond the area deflected in off Samuel Umtiti's right foot.
