Lionel Messi confirms 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be his last

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has confirmed that the Qatar World Cup later this year will be his last for his country. The PSG forward though will continue to play club football at least for the next few years.

Speaking to Argentine journalist Sebastian Vignolo, the 35-year-old said he's counting down the days to the World Cup. The legendary footballer further added that there's anxiety about what's going to happen since it will be his last World Cup for the country.

Messi, who first made his debut for the senior national side back in 2005, has represented Argentina a record 164 times. He's also the country's top-scorer with 90 goals.

The 7-time Ballon d'Or winner came close to finding World Cup success back in 2014 but finished runners-up after losing 0-1 to Germany in the final. His first major trophy with Argentina came only last year when he won the Copa America title.

And Messi's fans will be hoping the legendary footballer can bow out with a World Cup trophy - the only thing missing from his trophy cabinet.
