Manchester United agree Mason Mount deal with Chelsea for initial £55m | Football Transfers

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign England midfielder Mason Mount. The talented 24-year-old will join United on a five-year contract for a fee of £55m, with an additional £5m in potential add-ons.

This signing marks the first move of the summer for United under the leadership of manager Erik ten Hag, who aims to bolster the team's strength after securing qualification for the upcoming Champions League season.

Chelsea, having spent a substantial £600m during the previous season, needed to offload players before the end of June to alleviate concerns regarding Financial Fair Play regulations.

Initially, Chelsea rejected United's initial three offers, but negotiations between the two clubs resumed this week in order to break the impasse. While Chelsea preferred to retain Mount, they were unable to secure a new contract with the player, whose existing deal is set to expire next year.

Mount has been a key figure for Chelsea, contributing 33 goals in 195 appearances since making his senior debut in 2019. Unfortunately, he missed the end of last season due to injury, which coincided with Chelsea's disappointing 12th-place finish in the Premier League – their lowest in over 25 years.
