Maradona scored twice in their 2-1 win in a quarterfinal match against England. The first was the famous "Hand of God" goal where the referee failed to see that the ball had actually touched Maradona's fist before scoring. The second goal of Argentine footballer in this match was voted FIFA's "Goal of the Century" in a 2002 poll.

Notably, after the match Maradona swapped shirts with England midfielder Steve Hodge who had owned that jersey after that. Hodge loaned the jersey to be on public display at the National Football Museum in Manchester since 2002 and on April 6, Sotheby's announced the shirt was up for auction.
