Messi vs Ronaldo could renew iconic rivalry in Saudi Arabia soon

While Inter Miami are yet to finalise their preseason engagements, the prospect of a Messi vs Ronaldo clash in Saudi Arabia has stirred excitement.

Messi vs Ronaldo could renew iconic rivalry in Saudi Arabia soon

In a potential revival of their iconic rivalry, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could face off in the Riyadh Season Cup scheduled for February in Saudi Arabia. The three-team tournament is expected to feature Messi's Inter Miami, Ronaldo's Al Nassr, and Neymar's Al-Hilal.

While Inter Miami initially deemed the announcement "inaccurate," the prospect of a Messi vs Ronaldo clash has stirred excitement, with the Saudi General Entertainment Authority Chairman, Turki Alalshikh, expressing anticipation for the event. Messi, known for promoting tourism in Saudi Arabia, had participated in this year's Riyadh Season Cup as part of Paris Saint-Germain.

The Riyadh Season Cup aligns with Saudi Arabia's efforts to establish itself as a prominent player in global football. The country has attracted high-profile players, but Messi opted for MLS over a move to the oil-rich kingdom last season.

Inter Miami confirmed plans for an international tour but withheld specific details, emphasizing its commitment to becoming a global brand. Saudi Arabia, despite facing allegations of sportswashing, continues to make significant strides in hosting international football events.

Messi, having secured his first trophy with Inter Miami, and Ronaldo, leading Portugal in the upcoming European Championship, remain influential figures in world soccer. The Riyadh Season Cup, set to take place at Kingdom Arena in February, could mark a pivotal moment in their post-European football careers.

While Inter Miami's sporting director, Chris Henderson, clarified that preseason plans were yet to be finalized, the addition of Messi to the team has elevated its global status. The potential clash between Messi and Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia adds an enticing layer to the Riyadh Season Cup, creating anticipation among fans worldwide.
