Defending champions Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the English Premier League points table to 6 points after a crazy goal-fest versus Leicester City at the Etihad on Boxing Day. City's 25-minute opening blitzkrieg saw four goals as Pep Guardiola's team dominated the opening half hour of play.

Kevin De Bruyne, Riyadh Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling scored a goal each for Manchester City in the opening 45 minutes of play as the Leicester defence just fell apart. If the first half was crazy, then the fans were in for a goal-fest in the second half which saw as many as 6 goals being scored in the last 45 minutes. This time, it was Leicester City as James Maddison, Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho scored in a space of 10 minutes to get the Foxes back in the game.

Just when the scoreline read 4-3, City recovered fast from the onslaught as Laporte and Sterling scored two more goals to slam the door shut on Leicester City. The crazy 9-goal game was the highest scoring match in top-flight English football on Boxing Day since 1991. City have now opened up a 6-point gap on second placed Liverpool as Leicester remain 10th on the table.
