Premier League: Referees’ chief Howard Webb contacts Arsenal, Brighton after VAR howlers

Premier League referees’ chief Howard Webb called an emergency meeting following a disastrous weekend for VAR that saw Arsenal and Brighton lose out on crucial points.

“PGMOL can confirm its Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb has contacted both Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to acknowledge and explain the significant errors in the VAR process in their respective Premier League fixtures on Saturday." PGMOL statement read.

“Both incidents, which were due to human error and related to the analysis of offside situations, are being thoroughly reviewed by PGMOL.” They added.

While the VAR officials forgot to draw lines indicating offside for Ivan Toney’s goal against Arsenal for Brentford, the Crystal Palace-Brighton game saw the offside check being done on the wrong player, with Pervis Estupinan’s goal for the Seagulls disallowed because of the error.
