Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti accused of tax fraud by Spanish prosecutors

Carlo Ancelotti, the esteemed coach of Real Madrid, is currently under scrutiny by Spanish state prosecutors for alleged tax fraud. The allegations suggest that Ancelotti utilized shell companies to obscure portions of his income during his initial tenure with the club approximately ten years ago. On Wednesday, 6th March, the prosecutors disclosed their intention to charge Ancelotti with two instances of tax fraud, crimes that could potentially lead to a sentence of four years and nine months in prison.

The focus of the accusations is on the years 2014 and 2015, during which Ancelotti is said to have committed a tax evasion of 1 million euros. According to the prosecutors' statement, Ancelotti only reported the salary he received from Real Madrid while failing to disclose earnings derived from his image rights. It is alleged that he established a complex network of shell companies expressly for the purpose of concealing these additional revenues.

Ancelotti's association with Madrid spans two significant periods, initially leading the team from 2013 to 2015, and then making a return in 2021. His illustrious coaching career is marked by unparalleled achievements, including being the only coach to clinch the Champions League title four times—twice with Madrid and twice with AC Milan. Furthermore, Ancelotti holds the distinctive honor of securing domestic league titles across five major European leagues, including England, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France, showcasing his versatility and success across diverse footballing cultures.
