Who is Luke Williams? The Australian who will be RCB's new head coach in WPL

Australia's Luke Williams has been appointed as the new head coach for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the upcoming season of the Women's Premier League (WPL).

Williams will replace Ben Sawyer, who had a challenging inaugural season, having finished 4th among the 5 teams in the competition.

Who is Luke Williams?

Williams has a wealth of coaching experience. As the coach of Women's Big Bash League team Adelaide Strikers, the 43-year-old guided them to their first-ever title. The Strikers had also finished runners-up twice before.

He has also tasted success in the Hundred Women’s Competition this year, serving as an assistant coach for the Southern Brave.

During his playing days, Williams featured for South Australia in first-class cricket in the early 2000s, although he never represented the national team.

RCB’s woeful run in WPL 2023

RCB faced significant challenges in the first WPL season despite having star players like India's Smriti Mandhana, Australian legend Ellyse Perry, New Zealand's Sophie Devine, and England's Heather Knight in their ranks.

Mandhana, who was the most expensive player in the inaugural auction, struggled to make a significant impact for RCB. However, the team struggled to find consistent victories, managing only two wins from eight matches.
