Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka in jeopardy due to Delhi pollution? ICC takes advice from former AIIMS director

The International Cricket Council has sought advice from renowned pulmonologist Randeep Guleria for Bangladesh's match against Sri Lanka owing to the toxic air conditions in Delhi for the last four days.

While the AQI (Air Quality Index) is likely to remain in the severe category till at least November 7, the match is slated for the 6th.

As per an ICC spokesperson, "The BCCI engaged the services of renowned Pulmonologist Dr Randeep Guleria to assess the situation in Delhi ahead of Monday's game and provide independent expert advice"

Under former AIIMS director's guidance, the spokesperson said that the venue team has been taking mitigating actions throughout the day including the implementation of water sprinklers around the premises and the installation of air purifiers in the dressing rooms and match officials areas.

He further informed that the AQI within the stadium was monitored throughout the day and it has reduced to levels considered acceptable by Dr Guleria.

Both teams have cancelled one of their training sessions. Despite the poor air quality, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka cricketers came out to train wearing masks at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

Sri Lankan cricket team manager Mahinda Halangoda said that they are in touch with a medical panel and will abide by the decision of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with regard to the game.

Halangoda, however, clarified that Sri Lanka have not pleaded with the ICC for a change of venue for Monday's match.
