ICC World Cup 2023: Records galore as David Warner, Mitchell Marsh score centuries against Pakistan

Records were made in hordes as Australia's opening duo, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh struck blazing centuries in Australia's 367-run innings against Pakistan in Bengaluru.

While it seemed Aussies were crossing the 400-run mark, Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi restricted them with a 5-wicket haul.

Warner smashed a 124-ball 163, while Marsh scored 121 off 108 deliveries as the two were involved in a 259-run opening partnership that formed the cornerstone of the plethora of records they broke.

It is the fourth instance of both openers scoring centuries in a World Cup game but it is for the first time that the Australian openers achieved the feat. Their huge partnership is also the second-highest opening stand in the competition's history.

While for Warner it is his fifth hundred in the World Cup, Marsh on the other hand reached his maiden hundred in the tournament on his 32nd birthday.

Warner who also hit his fourth consecutive ODI ton against Pakistan equalled Virat Kohli's record of 4 tons vs West Indies and they now have the most tons by any player against a side in the 50-over format. Crossing the 150-run mark for the 7th time in World Cups, he also became the second on the all-time list, one behind Rohit Sharma who has 8 150+ scores.
