In India's last league game against Netherlands, it was captain Rohit Sharma who once again led the charge after the hosts opted to bat first.

Rohit, who holds the record for most number of centuries in an ODI World Cup, looked well on his way to score his second ton of the 2023 edition.

Alas, the skipper had to depart for a well-made 61 off 54 balls, which he played at a strike rate of 112.

Barring the opening game where he departed for a duck, Sharma has come through for the team in almost each game. The numbers speak for themselves.

It began with his fiery 131 against Afghanistan then a near miss of a second century against Pakistan when he made 86 at a strike rate of 136.

For the next two games versus Bangladesh and then New Zealand, Rohit failed to go over the half-century mark but nevertheless contributed heftily to the batting totals.

And then once again while facing England, Rohit inched closer to another ton but had to depart for 87.

Against South Africa at the Eden Gardens, Rohit smashed an all-important 40 at a strike rate of 166 on a pitch not suited for batters at all.

Batting coach Vikram Rathour credited Rohit for his fierce approach stating that if there's something on the wicket, he's looking to go for his shots.

Rathour added that it is working out really well for the team and that Rohit's leading with his action.
