Shreyas Iyer hails Rohit Sharma's captaincy, calls him 'fearless' after India's semifinal victory

India's No. 4 Shreyas Iyer commended captain Rohit Sharma for his fearless leadership, following India's convincing 70-run victory over New Zealand that secured their spot in the World Cup final.

Iyer, who played a pivotal role with a stellar 70-ball 105, contributing to India's imposing total of 397, lauded Rohit's significant impact at the top of the batting order.

Expressing his admiration for Rohit, Iyer remarked, "Rohit Sharma is a fearless captain; he sets the template for us. He has just been fearless throughout this World Cup. I just love him as a captain."

Although Rohit Sharma fell short of a half-century against New Zealand, his brisk 29-ball 47 provided crucial momentum to India's innings during the powerplay. With a tournament tally of 550 runs and a remarkable strike rate of 124, the Indian skipper has consistently been a key contributor, boasting the highest strike rate among the top 10 run-scorers in the World Cup.

Iyer emphasized that Rohit's impactful performances at the top of the order have established a positive tone for the Indian team. This, in turn, has allowed middle-order batters like himself to find their rhythm, highlighting the contagious fearlessness that Rohit Sharma brings to the team. Notably, Iyer has also surpassed the 500-run mark in this year's World Cup, registering two centuries and three half-centuries during the tournament.
