'Umpires correctly...': MCC rules in favour of Angelo Mathews timed-out dismissal | Cricket World Cup

Marylebone Cricket Club, the custodian of the rules governing the game of cricket have ruled in favour of the controversial Angelo Matthews 'timed out' dismissal.

MCC in its statement noted that Mathews did not consult with the umpires, rather, he just signalled to the dressing room for a replacement of his broken helmet.

The club further said that had the Lankan cricketer should have explained his situation to the umpires and asked for time, which they could have given him, thus removing any possibility of being timed out.

Explaining Umpires' decision, MCC stated that since the time had not been called by the cricketer and time of the appeal of more than two minutes had elapsed, the umpires correctly gave Mathews out.

During Sri Lanka's game vs Bangladesh, Mathews was given a 'time out' by the umpires after he failed to take strike within the stipulated time of two minutes following the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama.

Umpires upheld Bangladesh's appeal despite Mathews' repeated pleas whose helmet was broken and had asked for a new helmet.
