Controversy & Triumph: India's glory in Champions Trophy 2025

Amid controversy over playing in Dubai, India's strategic prowess is praised by Wasim Akram. Their undefeated streak in major tournaments showcases their depth and leadership strength, promising a bright future.

Controversy & Triumph: India's glory in Champions Trophy 2025

The Champions Trophy 2025 has been fraught with controversy, primarily centered on Team India's decision to play all their matches in Dubai, bypassing a trip to Pakistan. Critics have argued that this decision handed India an unfair advantage.

However, legendary Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram has dismissed these claims, asserting that India's dominance would have prevailed regardless of the venue.

Speaking on the "Dressing Room" show on Sports Central, Akram praised the Indian team’s prowess, suggesting they were destined to win the tournament anywhere. "This Indian team would have won it anywhere in the world," Akram insisted, countering criticisms of venue favoritism.

India’s impeccable form was evident as they clinched both the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy without dropping a single game.

Akram highlighted this streak as a testament to India's depth in talent and effective leadership. “Their undefeated run through these significant tournaments showcases their cricketing depth and the strength of their leadership,” he remarked.

Despite facing intense criticism after significant Test losses—an unexpected 0-3 home series defeat to New Zealand and a 1-3 loss in Australia—India maintained their faith in the leadership of captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Akram applauded this decision, noting that retaining the duo proved instrumental in their eventual success.

"In the face of pressure, the BCCI made a wise decision to retain their captain and coach, a decision that has truly paid off," Akram noted.

India's journey to the Champions Trophy title was built on an impressive winning streak, starting with a 3-0 ODI series victory over England. They extended this form by defeating Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, and New Zealand twice, showcasing their formidable prowess.

Looking ahead, Team India is set to resume international cricket in June post-IPL 2025, with a high-stakes five-match Test series in England. As they prepare for this challenge, one thing is certain: backed by recent achievements, this Indian team is riding high on confidence and poised for further success.
