Mumbai Indians win inaugural WPL title, beat DC in thrilling finale

Mumbai Indians won the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League as they defeated Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets in the final at Brabourne Stadium.

Chasing a 132-run target, Mumbai were off to a poor start as they lost both their openers inside 4 overs.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt then put up a 72-run stand to keep Mumbai in the hunt.

Even though captain Harmanpreet was run out in the 17th over, Sciver-Brunt ensured Mumbai got over the line in the final over as she remained unbeaten on 60 runs and hit the winning runs.

Earlier, opting to bat first, Delhi had the worst possible start as Shafali Verma was dismissed off a controversial high full-toss, closely followed by Alice Capsey.

The Capitals never recovered from the early blows and were reduced to 79-9 in the 16th over.

However, tailenders Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav produced a counter-attacking 52*-run stand for the last wicket, pushing DC to a respectable total of 131-9.
