French Open 2023: Alcaraz, Djokovic into quarterfinals; Sabalenka's final 8 clash vs Ukraine's Svitolina

French Open is into its second week and it is getting crowded at the top.

World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz crusied into the quarterfinals of the French Open 2023 with a comfortable straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 win over 17th seed Lorenzo Musetti.

Alcaraz prevailed over the Italian in just over 2 hours to set up a final 8 clash against 5th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.

Meanwhile, third seed Novak Djokovic made little work of his match against unseeded Juan Pablo Varillas to overtake rival Rafael Nadal and enter the French Open quarterfinals a record 17th time.

The 22-Time Grand Slam Winner was never truly in trouble during a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Juan Pablo Varillas on Sunday. He will now face Russia's Karen Khachanov for a place in the semi-finals.

In the women's singles category, the race to finish line intensified on Sunday after World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka defeated American Sloane Stephens to set up her quarterfinals clash against Ukraine's Elina Svitolina.

While Sabalenka's matches are a treat for spectators, drama doesn't elude the 25-year-old Belarusian.

Following her third round win, the 2023 Australian Open champion excused herself from post-match press conferences citing mental health. This move came after a Ukrainian reporter asked Sabalenka about her stance on the Ukraine-Russia war.

Sabalenka defeated Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk in the first round at the French Open and now will face another Ukrainian, Elina Svitolina.

The 28-year-old returns to the Tour after a maternity break and has displayed an excellent form so far.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek will fight for the final 8 spot on Monday against Lesia Tsurenko. Swiatek, a two-time French Open Champion has dropped just 8 games in her 3 matches so far with dominant performances against all the opponents.
