While India won the Thomas Cup, Indonesia stood 2nd and Denmark secured the bronze medal at the prestigious badminton tournament.

The formidable Indian team scripted history in Bangkok, Thailand as they won their first-ever Thomas Cup in 73-years of the existence of the prestigious World Team Championship. An overpowering India won 3 games back to back to hand the defending champions and 14-time winners Indonesia a 3-0 defeat on Sunday.

The day began on a high note for the Indian men who fired from the world go. After losing three matches on the trot, Lakshya Sen stood tall on the final day as he defeated Olympic Bronze medallist Anthony Ginting by 21-8, 17-21 and 16-21 in a nail-biting thriller.

After the perfect start, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty came back from a set down to extend India's lead to 2-0 with an 18-21, 23-21, 21-19 win against the doubles pair of Ahsan and Sukam.

Srikanth Kidambi hit the final nail in the coffin as he registered an easy 21-15, 23-21 win against Jonatan Christie to help India register their maiden victory.

While India won the gold and became only the 6th nation to bring Thomas Cup home, Indonesia stood 2nd and Denmark secured the bronze medal at the prestigious tournament.
