Indian tennis ace Sumit Nagal climbs to career-high ATP ranking

Sumit Nagal, India's premier tennis talent, has ascended to a career-high ATP singles ranking of 95, marking a significant milestone following a series of commendable performances. This new peak surpasses his previous best of 97, a rank he achieved after clinching the title at the Chennai Open, an ATP Challenger series event earlier in February.

Nagal's ascent in the rankings was propelled by his remarkable journey at the Australian Open earlier in the year, where he not only qualified for the main draw but also registered a historic win against the seeded Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan. This victory made him the first Indian to defeat a seeded player in the tournament, though his campaign concluded in the second round following a match against Shang Juncheng of China.

Following his victory at the Chennai Open, Nagal participated in two additional Challenger tournaments and also made appearances in an ATP 500 competition—the Dubai Championship—alongside two ATP 1000 Masters events at Indian Wells and Miami. Despite these efforts, his performance post-Chennai was highlighted by a semi-final appearance at the Bengaluru Challenger, showcasing his persistent determination and skill on the court.

As Nagal gears up for his next challenge at the Grand Prix Hassan II, an ATP 250 event in Marrakesh, Morocco, he is set to face off against Corentin Moutet of France in the initial round.
