Novak Djokovic set for Australian Open participation in 2023

Former World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who was deported from Australia last year, is all set to be granted visa for the year-opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open in 2023.

Djokovic's unvaccinated status saw his visa being revoked in January earlier this year after he failed to provide sufficient documents to back his reasons for vaccination exemption.

But now, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation confirmed reports that Immigration minister Andrew Giles would put aside a potential three-year ban from entry Down Under that Djokovic was facing as a foreign citizen whose visa was revoked.

The 21-time Grand Slam Champion is currently in Turin for the season-ending ATP Finals, where he won his opening match against Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-6.

Post his victory, the 35-year-old Serb indicated that his lawyers are currently in touch with the Australian govt and his camp is hopeful of a resolution with the authorities that'll allow him to travel to Melbourne in January.
