Paris Paralympics: Why Sumit Antil Should Equally Be Celebrated Like Neeraj Chopra! - YT long

Neeraj Chopra may be the most celebrated javelin star in India but Sumit Antil isn't far behind. While Neeraj has become a household name, para-athlete Sumit's athletic prowess and determination have become synonymous with the never-say-die attitude.

While Neeraj became the first Indian athlete to win a track and field gold medal at the Olympics, Sumit rose to fame when he clinched the first-ever javelin gold at the Tokyo Paralympics.

Doing it once felt so good that Sumit had to do it again. He emulated his performance at the Paris Paralympics and once again finished at the top of the podium in a javelin throw F64 category.

Antil's performance not only captivated audiences but also solidified his status as one of the premier athletes in his field.

The event, held at the iconic Stade de France, witnessed a breathtaking competition as Antil dominated the field with a series of remarkable throws. His winning throw, measuring 70.59 meters, not only won him a gold medal but also created a Paralympic record. Antil outperformed his closest rival by a significant margin of close to 3.5 meters, demonstrating both his skill and strategic acumen.

Sumit’s journey is indeed inspiring. Life has been no less than a challenge for him which took a dramatic turn when he suffered a spinal cord injury in a motorbike accident when he was just 17.

Despite the setbacks, he did not let his injury define him. Instead, he channelled his energy and determination into sports. Antil took up javelin throw and quickly made a name for himself in the field.

Antil’s victories in Tokyo and now in Paris are particularly significant given the challenges and rigorous training he has undergone leading up to these Games. Known for his relentless commitment and resilience, he has become a symbol of excellence and inspiration for aspiring athletes worldwide.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Sumit's exceptional performance and congratulated him for clinching the gold medal.

His two gold medals at the highest level are testimony to the fact that tough situations don't last long but tough people do.
