Watch: F1 Champion Max Verstappen loses Mega Trucks race to Yuki Tsunoda

Ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend, champion Max Verstappen, and Yuki Tsunoda, swapped F1 cars for mega trucks on Monday.

After lifting their blindfolds at the bottom of the towering Erzberg Mine in Eisenerz, Austria, the Red Bull and AlphaTauri pair were then presented with their new rides.

The two both completed a qualifying lap inside their truck, which each have 500 horsepower engines and wheels that weigh over 700 kilograms.

Verstappen posted a time of 55 seconds, with Tsunoda three seconds adrift, but the race was a different story.

Tsunoda raced ahead after bouncing over the scrapped cars on the track, before Verstappen's truck began to misfire, handing the 23-year-old from Japan an easy victory.

Verstappen is unlikely to be challenged by Tsunoda when the double world champion returns to his dominant Red Bull this weekend.

Red Bull have won all eight races of the 2023 season so far, with the 25-year-old claiming six victories to hold a commanding 69-point lead over teammate Sergio Perez.

Tsunoda has endured a difficult start to the season in Red Bull's sister team AlphaTauri, earning just two points.
