Wrestlers' protest outcome to influence families' attitude towards women in sports- Bajrang Punia

Ace Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia who is at the forefront of the ongoing agitation against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, feels that a positive outcome of the protest is going to immensely impact the families' attitude towards women in sports.

The Olympic medallist at Jantar Mantar said, 'In our country and society, families do not even know what is sexual harassment, there are so many wrestlers who stepped aside because of this. Over time I have seen a change in the society especially about how they see women in sports, but after finding out the problems that have surfaced here, who will want to send their daughters into sports?.

The 29-year-old also welcomed the formation of the Special Investigation Team that has been constituted to probe the allegations of sexual harassment levelled by women wrestlers against WFI president Brij Bhushan Singh.

He, however is doubtful about the oversight committee's report and said, 'if you go by what the committee has to say you will think that Brij bhushan is a picture of innocense'

The ace Indian wrestlers who have been sitting on protest since April 23rd at Jantar Mantar are demanding the arrest of brij bhushan sharan Singh. They have accused him of sexually exploiting several women grapplers which includes a minor as well.

The Delhi Police after Supreme Court's intervention filed two FIRs, including one under section 10 of POCSO Act against the 5-time BJP MP. The Kaiserganj MP however, has denied all the charges.

The judges of the supreme court had issued notice to the Delhi Police on a plea moved by the protesting wrestlers seeking monitoring of the investigation and recording of the statement of the alleged victims before the court.
