From Australian weather to 'Mankading': Here's what R Ashwin said ahead of India's game vs Zimbabwe

From Australian weather to 'Mankading': Here's what R Ashwin said ahead of India's game vs Zimbabwe

In the press conference on the eve of India's game against Zimbabwe, India's premier off-spinner R Ashwin reflected on various issues from Australian weather conditions to running the non-striker out. He also highlighted India's preparation ahead of their last Super 12 fixture.

Here's what Ashwin said in the presser:

On running the non-striker out:

  • Honestly, I would also not like to get out like that. Just because I don't like doesn't mean I cannot get out like that. Nobody likes getting out, I do not like being knicked off, bowled, LBW, run-out. Likewise, I would also not like to get run-out at the non-striker's end.
  • It is a form of a dismissal and it is legal. There are many arguments regarding that. Like with anything else in this world, people are going to have contradictory thoughts. Whether you want to do it or not, it is absolutely fine. It is good to know that some people won't do it, because you can run at the last minute and wait. It is good, people are going to come and say they won't do it, as a cricketer, I'll use that to my advantage.

On India's journey in T20 World Cup 2022:

  • We have not reached here easily (laughs). We have had quite tricky games against Bangladesh and Pakistan. These games went down to the wire. I think even people watching the game, giving their expert opinion on the game are still learning because the game is decided by such small margins.

Ashwin on Australian weather this time of the year

  • It would be unfair to say it’s different or it’s anything because we’ve never come to Australia this time of the year. Generally, when it comes to the sport itself, conditions are king. So, you need to understand that this is what is being presented in front of you.
  • I thought my entire sunscreen will be used. Unfortunately, no (laughing). It’s hit me. I generally like cold weather. I’ve been to England and played a lot of cricket there, but this has been very unique and different.
  • If you are playing a Test match, you can warm up through the day or get better, but playing T20 cricket in this weather, not to know what the surface will be like, how it will respond, what the weather is like, it’s been a new experience coming to Australia. It’s been a unique World Cup that way.
