T20 World Cup 2022: How Pakistan can still qualify for knockouts

T20 World Cup 2022: How Pakistan can still qualify for knockouts

Having lost their opening 2 matches in the T20 World Cup, Pakistan find themselves in deep trouble, with qualification for the knockouts not in their hands anymore.

How can Pakistan qualify for semis?

Babar Azam's men are yet to play the Netherlands, South Africa and Bangladesh. And for them to have any chance of qualification, they don't just need to win their remaining 3 games but also hope that other results go their way.

In addition to beating South Africa themselves, they need India to beat the Proteas as well.

Watch Highlights: Zimbabwe's 1-run win against Pakistan

In case of Zimbabwe, who shared a point with South Africa after their game was washed out, Pakistan will pray for the Chevrons to lose at least 2 of their remaining games, where they'll face Bangladesh, the Netherlands & then India.

Will it be enough?

In addition to the results, Pakistan will also need a higher net run rate. While their NRR really hasn't been that bad, courtesy of their last-ball nail-biters, they still need to win their remaining games with big margins.

Their best chance lies with arch-rivals India winning all their remaining games and topping the group. Even then they'd need luck, perhaps some rain and a few more upsets for a place in the semi-finals.
