T20 World Cup 2022 PAK vs SA Highlights: Shadab Khan's all-round effort keeps Pakistan's semis hope alive

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Pakistan vs South Africa Highlights : An all-round performance by Shadab Khan helped Pakistan to stay alive in the race for the semifinals with an exalting 33-run win over South Africa in a rain-interrupted Group 2 game of the T20 World Cup 2022.

Winning the toss, Pakistan decided to bat first. However, after losing their star opener Mohd Rizwan in the first over itself, the Men in Green were quickly reduced to 43-4 in 7 overs. The only bright spot during the initial overs was Mohd Haris who smashed a quick 28 in 11 balls. Theron, Iftikar Ahmed and Shadab Khan took matters into their hands as they lifted the sinking side with brisk 50s. While Iftikhar Ahmed made 51 in 35 balls, Shadab, took just 20 balls to hit his 2nd half-century of the ongoing tournament to propel Pakistan to a daunting 185. Anrich Nortje was the most successful bowler for South Africa with figures of 4/41.

In reply, South Africa’s game plan was hindered early with Shaheen Shah Afridi ousting the dangerous Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw in the first 2 overs itself. Temba Bavuma however tried to bring the game back on track with a 19-ball-36, but he fell prey to Shadab Khan who also ousted Aiden Markram in the same 7th over before rain interrupted play. South Africa were set a revised target of 142 runs in 14 overs via the DLS method, they needed 73 off five overs after rain cut short the game by six overs. A scintillating performance by the Pakistan bowlers restricted Proteas to 108/9 in 14 overs as they kept their semifinal hopes alive.
