WATCH HIGHLIGHTS! Meiyappan's hat-trick in vain as Sri Lanka roar back to keep campaign alive

Having suffered a shock 55-run defeat to Namibia in their first match, Asian Champions Sri Lanka are back in the reckoning after beating the UAE by 79 runs.

WATCH HIGHLIGHTS! Meiyappan's hat-trick in vain as Sri Lanka roar back to keep campaign alive

UAE's Karthik Meiyappan bagged the first hat-trick of the T20 World Cup, and yet his side ended up on the losing side against Sri Lanka.

The leggie, bowling in the 15th over, picked up the wickets of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka & Dasun Shanka off successive deliveries in Geelong.

Even as the hat-trick threatened to derail the Sri Lanka innings, opener Pathum Nissanka, who had completed his fifty a few balls before, ensured the Asian Champions at least got to a respectable total.

Chasing 153, the UAE top order was blown away by Dushmantha Chameera. The pacer picked up 3 wickets in just his first 2 overs to floor the team from the middle east.

And UAE just couldn't recover from there. Wickets kept falling in a heap. While Junaid Siddique's 109-metre massive hit did get the crowd going, Sri Lanka managed to bundle out their opponents for just 73, earning a 79-run victory.
