IPL 2022, KKR vs MI Highlights: Pat Cummins hits joint-fastest fifty in IPL, wins the match for KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders have gained the top spot on IPL 2022 points table after thrashing Mumbai Indians in Match 14 of the Indian Premier League on April 6. After a majestic win over the five-time IPL champions, Kolkata have six points in four games while the second-placed Rajasthan Royals have four points in three games. Rajasthan are followed by Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings. Meanwhile, Mumbai have slipped to the ninth spot in IPL 2022 team rankings after losing their third game in a row this season just over Sunrisers Hyderabad.  READ MORE

Jasprit Bumrah continues and venkatesh collects a single off the first delivery, reaches his FIFTY-run mark. Bumrah bowls two DOT deliveries to Cummins before the Australian deposits the 4th ball of the over into the stands. 

Cummins edges the 5th ball through short third man for FOUR while collects a single off the last delivery.

Murugan Ashwin continues and provides yet another breakthrough. Nitish Rana tries to break the shackles after KKR takes only two runs in first three balls but the southpaw fails to clear deep mid-wicket.

Daniel Sams comes back into the attack and Venkatesh defends the first ball. Venkatesh pulls the next ball and manages only a top edge, which flies over keeper for FOUR. Venkatesh cuts the 4th ball powerfully through backward point for FOUR and collects a single off the second.

Shreyas Iyer pulls the last delivery of the over put fails to get the distance as Tilak Verma completes the catch at deep backward square leg.

Tymal Mills comes into the attack and gets the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane first ball. The pressure to accelerate is mounting and Rahane goes for a big pull shot but fails to clear Daniel Sams at deep square leg, GONE. 

Shreyas Iyer arrives at the crease and guides the ball on the pads through short fine leg for FOUR. Mills comes back brilliantly with two DOTs. Ishan Kishan drops a tough chance as Shreyas gloves the short delivery for FOUR.

Jasprit Bumrah, right-arm fast, comes into the attack and concedes only two singles.

Daniel Sams bowls the second over and concedes six runs.

Basil Thampi bowls the first over and concedes only three singles.

Pat Cummins bowls the last over and gets the wicket of Suryakumar off the first ball. Only Sam Billings appeals for the caught behind and Shreyas Iyer takes the DRS. There is a clear spike on the snicko, SKY departs. BIG BLOW FOR Mumbai.

Russell comes into the attack and Surya smashes the first ball for FOUR, completes his FIFTY on return. SKY collects a single off the second delivery. 

Tilak Verma whacks the 4th ball over mid-off for FOUR. Russell follows up with a short delivery, Tilak fails to put bat on ball. Another short delivery to end the over.

Sunil Narine comes into the attack and Tilak Verma collects a single off the first delivery. Surya slog sweeps the second ball for GIGANTIC SIX towards deep mid-wicket and collects a single off the next delivery.

Rasikh Salam is back into the attack and Suryakumar slog sweeps the third ball towards deep backward square leg for FOUR and drives the next ball towards sweeper cover for a single.

Varun Chakaravarthy comes into the attack and Dewald greets him with a big SIX. Chakaravarthy comes back brilliantly and bowls three DOT deliveries before the South Africa's U-19 star goes for desperate slog sweep and misses the ball completely.

Mumbai 35-1 after the end of powerplay

Umesh Yadav bowls his third over and beats Brevis outside off with a peach of delivery. Brevis hits the second ball over extra cover for an easy double. 

Brevis makes some room and whacks the back of length delivery over mid-on for FOUR. Baby AB plays a powerfull straight drive but it is too straight as the ball hits the stumps, one run taken. Ishan Kishan gets an inside edge onto the pads and takes a single gets a another due to overthrows.

Rasikh Salam continues and Brevis whacks the first ball over mid-on for FOUR. Salam comes back brilliantly with a peach of delivery, beating Brevis outside off. Brevis edges the next ball to third man for a single.

While the emergence of unheralded N Tilak Verma, who smashed 61 off 33 balls to take MI to 81 in 8 overs against RR, was a big positive, the team still couldn't chase down a total of 193.

And the likes of Anmolpreet Singh, Tim David and West Indian Kieron Pollard will need to shoulder responsibility.

While Singh scored in single digits, David too didn't look comfortable on Indian tracks and it needs to be seen if MI brings in South Africa's U-19 star Dewald Brevis, known as 'Baby AB'.

Jasprit Bumrah, with his three-for, however, showed why he is the best in the business, particularly at the death and MI would be hoping for another stellar show from him.

For a turn-around, Rohit himself will have to be at his brutal best and hammer his favourite opposition, against whom he has a formidable record.

Opener Ishan Kishan has been rock solid, smashing a brilliant 81 in the lung-opener followed by a gusty 54.

If Mumbai have to post score or chase a big total, which is likely at the MCA stadium in Gahunje, Rohit and Kishan would need to fire on all cylinders.

For MI, pacer Basil Thampi and spinner Murugan Ashwin have proved to be weak-links as they yielded 73 runs in 3 overs during RR's innings and the duo will need to produce a better show on Wednesday.

In fact, Australian seamer Daniel Sams too went for runs and remained wicketless in the last two matches.

The trio will have to quickly recover from their forgettable outing against RR and bowl in the right areas if they have to contain the KKR batters.

Mumbai Indians' domestic bowlers will look to step up as they take on a buoyant Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL here on Wednesday, looking to turn things around after back-to-back defeats.

MI have so far looked like anything but IPL's five-time champions, losing both their opening games – first against Delhi Capitals by four wickets and then against a resurgent Rajasthan Royals by 23 runs.

And skipper Rohit Sharma will seek improvements on multiple fronts to effect a turnaround when they face KKR, who come into the game after beating Punjab Kings by six wickets.
