Sri Lanka started their Super 12 campaign on high with a nine-wicket win over Ireland 9 at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. Kusal Mendis remained at the crease till the last ball, scoring 68 runs in 43 balls.

Charith Asalanka and Dhananjaya de Silva scored 31 runs apiece.

Ireland need quick wickets to stage a comeback now.

Chasing a modest 129-run target, Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva provide Sri Lanka a flying start.

The duo has stitched up 36 runs stand in first 4 Overs.

Sri Lanka bounced back in the death overs and restricted Ireland to 128-8 in 20 Overs. 

Harry Tector is the highest scorer for Ireland with 45 runs while all six Lankan bowlers chipped in with at least one wicket. 

Dockrell and Tector have put the Ireland innings back on track with a 41-run stand in five overs. A late flourish by the Irish men could push them beyond 150-run mark

At the halfway mark, Ireland are 4 wickets down. Karunaratne gets the wicket of Curtis Campher off the last delivery of the 10th over. 

Ireland are in deep trouble now, losing 4 at a score of 60. They need to pull up their socks in the remaining 10 overs to put up a competitive target. 

Dhananjaya de Silva strikes in his first over. Paul Stirling, who has been striking well, hit the 4th ball of 8th over straight to deep mid-wicket. However, the replays shows it was not a clean catch as Rajapaksa may have grounded the ball. But it was too late now as onfield umpire didn't ask for third umpire.

Sri Lanka get their second wicket in the powerplay. This time Maheesh Theekshana strikes, Lorcan Tucker tries to 4th delivery of 5th ball but misses it. The ball hits the pads and rolls down to the stumps, CASTLED. 

Ireland 26-2 after 5 overs

Virat Kohli has no qualms playing second fiddle to Suryakumar Yadav. Because his younger India teammate tells him to do so, and more importantly, it "works beautifully" for the team as the man, acronymed SKY, goes ballistic.

During the recent white-ball series against Australia, Kohli played second fiddle with Suryakumar turning the aggressor.

"It's a great space to be while batting out there in the middle with SKY," Kohli said on Star Sports show 'Cricket Live'.

"He has a lot of fun in the middle because of his skills and ability. He just asks how the ball is coming from the wicket and then, within 2-3 balls, he gauges the wicket and then gets going.

"During our partnerships, he says that he will take his chances and just wants me to be there with him. So, I play a different role when I'm out there with him, which I am enjoying because it works beautifully well for the team." Kohli and Suryakumar added 104 off just 10.2 overs to chase down Australia's 187-run target in the final T20I in Hyderabad last month.
