Apple must allow other forms of in-app payment, US Judge rules

A US Federal judge has ruled that Apple must allow app developers the option to offer users alternative payment systems for in-app purchases, hosted on Apple's App Store.

As part of the Epic v Apple trial, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez has ruled a compromise that puts neither party in a winning position, and could spell a loss in revenue for Apple, at least in the United States.

The injunction now forces Apple to not only shed light on alternative payment methods for iPhone users, but may also allow developers to employ their own purchase systems for their apps.

Meanwhile, Epic has been ordered to pay around $3.6 million to Apple for breach of contract, and Fortnite will remain unavailable on the App Store, with the Judge upholding Apple's right to removing Fortnite for Epic's breach.
